A Now and Then Quarterly Magic
Magzine (magazine-fanzine) published by
Al Smith, now in its sixth year. The successor to the not-quite
legendary Abacus, it features news, opinion, articles, opinion, magic
tricks, opinion, reviews, opinion and more.
Each
issue is a minimum of 36 pages, usually 45/55. It’s a spiral bound
effort, not a glossy, not designed for coffee table display and
definitely not for the faint of heart. Nobody is safe. But the language
is robustly clean.

JOHN
HELVIN PUBLISHING
The
September 2009 issue of Magicseen includes an interview of
John Helvin regarding his art and the Magicians project. The article
includes a selection of portraits (Dai Vernon, James Randi, David
Williamson, Tommy Cooper and Romany).
Another of John Helvin's portraits received a mention on the website of
Shawn Farquhar, an award winning magician. The portrait is of
Roy Walton.
|
In
April 2009 John Helvin received a mention on the website of the James
Randi Educational Foundation. Phil Plait, president of the foundation,
saw John Helvin's portrait of James Randi on John Helvin's blog and
wrote a short piece about it in the news section of the JREF website.

A brief, slightly inaccurate, entry about John Helvin on the Museum of
Learning.
